This group of plastics consists of fibres made of two polymers. The resulting mesh is heat treated so that just one of the fibres melts, forming a fabric type surface. The unchanged fibre acts as a reinforcement. This idea was developed by Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd (ICI) during the 1970s.
