Description

Profesor Kilburn and engineers at the control console. The prototype was built in Manchester in 1946 under the supervision of Profesor Max Newman and with the help of a large grant from the Royal Society. In 1949 the Government commisioned the weapons and electronic company Ferranti Ltd to manufacture computers to the same design.
