This full size working replica was built by Michael Satow and Locomotive Enterprises Ltd and was shown in Kensington Gardens, London, on the 150th anniversary of the Rainhill Trials in 1979. The original was designed and built by Robert Stephenson (1803- 1859) and George Stephenson (1781-1848). It won the Rainhill Trials of 1829, a competition set up to find the most efficient locomotive for haulage on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway.
