Model (scale 1:32). The succesful development of the steam turbine was due to Sir Charles A Parsons and his experimental yacht, the 'Turbinia'. The 'Tarantula' is of special interest because of her similarity. She was constructed at Poplar by Yarrow and Company for Colonel H L B McCalmont. The hull was designed on the lines of the contemporary first clas torpedo boats. The engines consisted of a three-shaft arrangement of parallel-flow turbines built by the Parsons Marine Steam Turbine Company.
