This contemporary unrigged model (scale 1:60) represents a Third-Rate of 70 guns, built according to the Establishment of 1706. It is interesting to note the result of the order of the Admiralty in 1703 restricting elaborate carving and gilding. In 1718 the 'Captain' took part in Admiral Sir George Byng's defeat of the Spanish Fleet at the Battle of Cape Pasaro, Sicily. Her burden was 1121 tons, length of gun-deck was 150 ft 6 ins, breadth 41 ft 3 ins and she carried 480 men.
