Description

Model (scale 1:12). These junks from southern China were famed for their speed and their seagoing quality. Not unlike junks from Hong Kong to the north, they show signs of European influence, but if this is the case it is very ancient. They are notable for their mat sails. This model represents a junk 84 ft in length and 18 ft 2 ins in breadth.
