Model. In Ancient Egypt, shipbuilding had to rely on the timber of the acacia as more suitable timber was not available, and a form of construction had to be used which suited the short and irregular timbers produced by that tree. The Cairo Museum contains an original boat of the XIIth Dynasty, c 2000 BC, but all the upper works are mising. The mast, sail and cabins of this model have been copied from one of the models of procesional boats found by Howard Carter in the tomb of Tutankhamen of the XVIIIth Dynasty, c 1300 BC.
