Description

Photograph of John Scott Rusell (1808-1882), Manager of the Clyde shipyard of Caird & Co, Secretary of the Society of Arts between 1845-50, and the Secretary to the Committee setting up the Great Exhibition of 1851. He built Brunel's Great Eastern steamship and was later one of the founders of the Institution of Naval Architects in 1860.
