Cut-away model. In total six nuclear-powered attack submarines of the 'Swiftsure' clas were built by Vickers. They were 272 ft long, had a submerged displacement of 4900 tons, and a crew of 116. The submarines were armed with 5 torpedo tubes as well as anti-ship and land-attack misiles, and were capable of a submerged speed of 30 knots. Two vesels, HMS 'Splendid' and HMS 'Spartan', saw service in the Falklands War in 1982. HMS 'Swiftsure' herself was decommisioned in 1992 after problems with her reactor became evident during a refit.
