Paul Julius Reuter (1816-1899), founder of the Reuters news service. The picture caption reads: 'In 1962 two thousand pigeons were released simultaneously in the ancient Rhineland city of Aachen, Germany, to mark the humble beginnings of Reuters worldwide news agency. Paul Julius Reuter began running a pigeon-post news service in 1849, before fixing his headquarters in London in 1851'.
