The construction of destroyers was discontinued after the end of World War I, but the first post-war clas of destroyers were launched in 1929, known as the 'A' clas and included the 'Antelope'. They were 323 ft long with a displacement of 1330 tons. The armament consisted of four 4.7-inch guns, two 2-pounder pom-poms and eight 21-inch torpedo tubes arranged in groups of four on turntables. During World War II, the 'Antelope' took part in operations against the 'Bismarck' in 1941 and in escorting the Malta Convoys in 1942 and 1943.
