Faithfull cradle washing machine, 1906.

© Science Museum / Science & Society Picture Library

Description

The cleaning action of this machine is derived from the impact of the clothes and hot soapy water at the ends of the oblong container as it is rocked to and fro like a child's cradle. A pair of wooden legs at each side can be let down to stabilise the machine as it is being filled or emptied. This machine was made by Faithfull Brothers Limited and lent by Mr E Clisett of Abertillery. Front view.
