HMS 'Highflyer', 1851.

HMS 'Highflyer' was a ship-rigged, wooden corvette launched at Blackwall and was a typical example of a small warship fitted with a propeller which could be raised out of the water when the ship was under sail. The 'Highflyer' was 192 ft long, with a displacement of 1775 tons. She was armed with 20 8-inch guns and one 10-inch pivot gun, all carried on the upper deck. The 'Highflyer' took part in actions in the Black Sea during the Crimean War and later served in the East Indies and the Far East. She was broken up in 1872.
