Description
The original caption for this photograph read: 'Battersea Power Station gleams brightly across the dark swirling waters of the Thames. Floodlights playing on the massive building give a Roman Candle effect to the haze of steam and smoke rushing from the chimneys.' Designed by the architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, Battersea Power Station provided London with electricity between 1933 and 1983. Although the building has been unused and derelict since its closure, Battersea Power Station remains one of London's most iconic architectural landmarks.
