Comet' Locomotive, 1835. Model (scale 1:16). The Comet was the first locomotive to be used on the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway, and was built by the Newcastle-upon-Tyne firm of R and W Hawthorn in 1835, at a cost of #778. The tender cost #109 14s 6d. The Comet, a 0-4-0 locomotive, with its fixed eccentrics, inside cylinders and inside plate frames, was the forerunner of many similar designs.
