This electric compresion domestic refrigerator no 5534 was made by Kelvinator, Detroit, Michigan, USA. It is an example of the first self-contained electric refrigerators to incorporate all moving parts within its cabinet - motor, pump and the condensing unit which used anhydrous sulphur dioxide as the refrigerant. The Kelvinator refrigerators made in Detroit, Michigan in 1914 to 1918 were the first succesful domestic refrigerators to enter full-scale production in the USA.
