This black cast-iron cooker was manufactured by the General Electric Company of Mexborough between 1925 and 1930. During the 1920s and 1930s many households were wired for electricity and electric cooking became widespread. By the end of the 1930s domestic electricity consumers had increased tenfold from one to over ten million. Features: double-glazed oven door, enamelled oven lining, three hotplates, thermometer, a 2-pin plug and switch for use with auxiliary apparatus eg an electric kettle or toaster.
