Oil painting by E F Skinner showing the interior of Grimesthorpe Steel and Ordnance Works, Sheffield, with foundry workers coiling and setting springs. In the background two men tend to a spring which is being coiled on a machine. In the foreground, to the left, another spring is set and adjusted while hot, near a hearth, and to right an immersion tank is ready for hardening and tempering the springs. Painted during WW1 as a commision by Cammell Laird, for reproduction as postcards to be sold in aid of the British Red Cros.
