Model (scale 1:6) of John Dickinson's (1782-1869) machine. It consisted of a perforated bras drum covered with wire gauze. This had closed ends and rotated partially immersed in pulp. A vacuum was created in the drum by air pumps, and fibres of pulp were sucked up as the drum rotated, forming a sheet which was removed from the drum by a belt.
