Eridge cart, late 19th century.

This rather unusual pony phaeton came originally from Eridge Castle in Kent, and is believed to have been designed by Lord Abergavenny. The seating arrangement is similar to that on a dog cart, with provision for two facing forward and two facing the rear, sitting back-to-back. The front wheels are positioned well ahead of the body of the vehicle to facilitate turning easily in confined spaces, and there is a handbrake which operates on the rear wheels.
