Description

John Watkins Brett (1805-1863), telegraphic engineer and originator of the scheme of submarine telegraphy. Brett is shown here with a map showing the submarine cable between England and France. In 1851 the first telegraphic mesage was transmitted under the sea, from Dover to Cap Gris Nez, France.
