Description

'Le Chirurgien de Campagne' ('The Country Surgeon'), an engraving by Thomas Major after David Teniers, showing the interior of a doctor's rooms. On the shelf are bottles and jars of potions and remedies, a stuffed lizard hangs from the ceiling, and a monkey sits by the window. A seated man is having his foot attended by the doctor, whose instruments and equipment are shown in the foreground. A boy helps prepare poultices while a woman watches.
