This model of the mill at Bazacle at Toulouse was acquired by Dr Stephen Demainbray (1710-1782), the famous lecturer, while he was in France that year. The water was directed through a narrowing channel onto a paddle wheel with curved blades, which was connected to the upper grinding wheel. Demainbray claimed that this was the only model of its kind to be brought to England.
