© NRM / Pictorial Collection / Science & Society Picture Library
Poster produced for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to Knaresborough in North Yorkshire. The poster is illustrated with two scenes of Mother Shipton's Cave in Knaresborough: one, in 1486, represents 'then' and shows Mother Shipton, the famous prophetes, riding into her cave on a goat, while the second, representing 'now', shows an elegantly dresed tourist standing outside the cave's entrance. Artwork by Andrew Johnson.
