Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), showing a portrait of the founder of the first commercial steam railway and forerunners of the LNER, George Stephenson (1781-1848). In 1825, Stephenson launched the Stockton & Darlington Railway, and four years later his steam locomotive 'Rocket' won the Rainhill Trials competition, leading to the opening of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway in 1830.
