Poster produced by British Railways (BR) to promote rail travel to the city of York, Yorkshire. The poster shows a knight, cardinal, Roman centurion and other figures superimposed upon a picture of a castle and cathedral. York was widely promoted as 'the gateway to history'. Artwork by E H Spencer.
