Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER): 'Translation of the Most Holy Queen Margaret', showing the reliquary containing the remains of Queen Margaret being carried in procesion through Dunfermline Abbey, in Fife, Scotland. Margaret (c 1046-1093) was the wife of the Scottish king Malcolm Canmore and founder of the Abbey. She was canonised in 1249 and the following year her remains were exhumed and transferred to a magnificent new shrine. Artwork by Fred Taylor (1875-1963).
