Description
East Coast Frolics - No 1. "I do like to be beside - the Drier Side!" , LNER poster, 1933. Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to East Coast resorts. The poster shows a duck in a Pierrot costume singing while accompanied on the piano by a mouse. This is one of a set of six humourous posters exhibited in the 1933 LNER Poster Art Exhibition at the New Burlington Galleries in London. Artwork by Frank Newbould (1887-1951), who studied at Bradford College of Art and joined the War Office in 1942. He designed posters for the LNER, GWR (Great Western Railway), Orient Line and Belgian Railways.
