Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), promoting rail travel to Norwich in Norfolk: 'It's Quicker by Rail' ,showing two women and a man, dresed in 17th century costume, standing in a hall at the foot of a staircase in Strangers' Hall. Built as a townhouse in mediaeval times, Strangers' Hall pased into the ownership of a grocer, Francis Cock, in 1621. Cock was responsible for installing the impresive wooden staircase and bay window shown here. Artwork by Fred Taylor (1875-1963).
