Poster produced for British Railways (BR) to promote train services to Dover, and then connections to the Continent. Two pictures, labelled 'Then' and 'Now', point to the vast increase in frequency of cros-Channel sailings. In 1850, there was one sailing per week, but by 1950 this had increased to seven sailings per day. Artwork by Leslie Carr, who painted marine, architectural and river scenes and designed posters for Southern Railway (SR), London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and British Railways.
