Poster produced for British Railways (Southern Region) to promote their services to the Isle of Wight. The poster shows two sail boats with a British Rail ship approaching from the distance. British Railways offered a regular service from Portsmouth and Lymington to the Isle of Wight. The blue sky with its white clouds seem to merge with the blue water with its white foam in the painting, executed in a predominately blue palette. Artwork by Claude Buckle, who originally trained as an architect but turned to fine art in 1928. He painted in both oil and watercolour and was a prolific poster artis for the Great Western Railway (GWR) and British Railways (BR). Much of his original poster artwork is held at the National Railway Museum.
