'Gloucester Cathedral', GWR/LMS poster, 1923-1947.

Poster produced by Great Western Railway (GWR) and London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to promote rail travel to Gloucester, Gloucestershire. The poster shows a view of Gloucester Cathedral, with a scene below illustrating the coronation of King Henry III (1207-1272) in the cathedral on 28 October 1216, when he was only nine years old. Artwork by Claude Buckle (1905-1973), who originally trained as an architect, but later turned to pictorial art. He painted in both oil and watercolour and was a prolific poster artist for Great Western Railway (GWR) and BR. Much of his original poster artwork is held at the National Railway Museum.
