Poster produced for Southern Railways (SR) promoting rail services to Portsmouth, Southsea and Isle of Wight. The poster shows a train travelling through the countryside towards a tunnel built into a mountain. Electrical power poles are visible next to the track. It was the custom of Southern Railways (SR) to issue a poster to advertise each of its successive electrification extensions, which improved services in winter. Artwork by Charles Pears, a marine painter in oil who was an Official Naval Artist during the World Wars. He worked as a poster artist for rail companies and other clients and was also a book illustrator. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 1270 mm.
