Poster produced for the London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS), showing a view of Shrewsbury School in Shropshire, with the River Severn in the foreground. This is one of a series of posters entitled 'Famous Public Schools on the LMS'. Shrewsbury School was founded by King Edward VI in 1552 and moved to its present site on Kingsland in 1882. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for the London & North Western Railway (LNWR), the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) and Southern Railway (SR) and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924.
