A photograph of survivors of a British steam ship, sunk by a German U-boat in October 1939. A photograph of the little girl pictured, Hazel Armstrong, whose mother was killed, was featured in the Daily Herald newspaper juxtaposed with a photograph of Adolf Hitler "Friend of the Children", taken by Hitler's official photographer, Heinrich Hoffmann. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers. 26-Oct-39
