This goods depot is on the banks of the river Mersey and stored goods that had been brought to this area to be shipped abroad from Liverpool's docks. It also stored goods that had just been imported and were waiting to be taken to their destination. The coming of the railways helped the growth of Liverpool's docks because goods were able to be moved around Britain more quickly and easily.
