"Crowds getting onto a train at Manchester Victoria. The passengers are probably going out for the day as it is a public holiday. The railways put on special excursion or holiday tickets at cheap prices for holiday makers. By the 1920s more and more people were beginning to take holidays, rather than just a day trip because they were able to get paid holidays from work."
