"Workers in the sawmill at Newton Heath carriage works. In the 1920s carriage bodies were made from wood, although by the Second World War iron and steel replaced the timber. Newton Heath in Manchester was a small railway carriage and wagon works operated by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. "
