"Bearded man, probably the photographer Francis Frith, wearing a kaftan, with turban and pipe. Salt paper print by Nicolaas Henneman, one of William Henry Fox Talbot's (1800-1877) earliest students; he sometimes re-took Talbot's original photographs when the negative had been damaged. Talbot helped Henneman to set up the Reading Establishment in 1844, a photographic studio where prints could be mass produced to be featured in Talbot's book 'The Pencil of Nature', the first book to be illustrated with photographs."
