A banner reads: 'British Railways welcome you to the Olympic Games'. The games were held in summer 1948 at Wembley Stadium. At this time, London was still recovering from bomb damage caused in the Second World War. Some athletes had to stay in schools and bring their own food! However, the games were very successful with over 4000 athletes taking part.
