Clarks had found a way of making wooden-soled shoes flexible by hingeing them. Photograph by John Hinde. Hinde produced postcards with social history in mind becoming one of the first photographers to use colour for this purpose. The colours (produced using the tricolour carbro process) are Technicolor bright and the contents were carefully staged. He became one of the successfull postcard publishers in the world.
