'Carruthers successfully defended his 250 cc title in the Manx TT race yesterday, when he swept to an immaculate victory in the battle for the Lightweight championship of the world. He proved, above all, the staying power of his privately-run twin-cylinder Yamaha, a five-speed two-stroke, which cost him around £1,000.' The world-famous TT (Tourist Trophy) Motorcycle Races have been held on the Isle of Man since 1907.
