Silkstone Row in Altofts, near Normanton, was reported to have been the longest row of three-storeyed cottages in Europe. It was built c 1865 for miners who worked at the West Riding Colliery. The mine closed in 1966 and Silkstone Row was demolished in the late 1970s.
