Description

A woman sweeps rubble off the pavement while a car burns in the street. When the 'sus' (suspicion) law was introduced by the Metropolitan Police into the socially deprived area of Brixton in South London, police were able to stop and search anyone they suspected might commit a crime. Black youths suffered disproportionately from the application of this new law, and police racism, poverty and alienation combined to cause rioting.
