'Mr George Weaving, the subject of this photo story was an unemployed bricklayer's mate whose wife had recently starved herself to death. He and his family of seven children were the recipients of a hot meal provided by the newspaper. The eldest daughter, Minnie, aged 14, worked in a laundry earning 10 shillings a week for a 10 hour day to provide the family's income.'
