The Prime Minister, Winston Churchill inspects the American Motorised Squadron of Home Guards on Horse Guards Parade. He is accompanied by his wife, Clem. Churchill (1874-1965) became Prime Minister in 1940, and led Britain during World War II. He worked constantly, and was famous for his determination and inspiring speeches. He was defeated in the 1945 elections, however, but was re-elected in 1951 at the age of 77. Photograph by Bishop Marshall.
