Description

'Thousands of spectators cheered out the words of Rule Britannia. It was an emotional parade for everyone. Even the Labour leader Michael Foot, standing to the left of [the Prime Minister} Mrs Thatcher on the portico of the Mansion House, tapped his hands in time with the music and whistled the different tunes. The march past of 1250 men began at Armoury House in Bunhill Fields and ended at the Guildhall. Taking the salute were Mrs Thatcher and the recently retired Admiral of the Fleet Sir Terence Lewin...' Britain went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands in 1982.
