The Gnat was built by Folland Aircraft Ltd in September 1962. This example was used for research into turbulence and air movement by the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Bedford, between 1970-1983. The Gnat is seen here suspended above a Rolls-Royce RB211 engine. (The photograph was taken in November 1984 in pre-1993 aeronautics gallery display).
