The reverse of a dye jar of Actien Gesellschaft fUr Anilin Fabrikation, Berlin S.O [Sud-Ost], Germany (Agfa). Chrom-Echtviolet R; Metachrom-Blauschwarz 2B; Metachrom-Olive B. The Aktien Gesellschaft fUr Anilin Fabrikation was founded in 1873 by Carl Martius and Paul Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (the nephew of the composer), became part of I.G. Farbenindustrie AG in 1925 and a subsidiary of Farbenfabriken Bayer AG in 1952. The original factory was located in Treptow, a south-eastern suburb of Berlin. Part of a collection of late nineteenth and early twentieth century colorants transferred from the Colour Museum, Bradford, in 1985.
