British Telecom pager 3BMXB/1. From the mid-1970s the radio pager offered a way for the busy professional to keep in touch with the office while on the move. Brief messages could be sent to the pager, though a conventional telephone had to be found to make return calls. The heyday of the pager was the 1980s, but in the following decade the rise of the mobile phone made them obsolescent.
